February 27, March 20, and April 24, 2026 from 2:00–3:00 p.m on Zoom
Drop in to join representatives of the Stanford Research Development Office and University Corporate and Foundation Relations, as well as our counterparts from the School of Medicine, to talk about diversifying funding and related strategies.

March 3, 2026: NSF CAREER Proposal Kickoff
For pre-tenure Assistant Professors in NSF-eligible disciplines who are considering an NSF CAREER proposal in the next 1-3 years. This workshop will provide an overview of key components of the NSF CAREER program, feature insights from successful CAREER awardees, and offer opportunities to connect with colleagues across the university who are at a similar stage.

Hosted together with University Corporate Foundation Relations
The session helped faculty assess whether the Packard Fellowship may be a good fit for them. Stanford Packard Fellows shared their perspectives on program fit, communicating risk, and proposal framing.

A writing group to support Stanford Arts and Humanities faculty who plan to submit a fellowship proposal within the next year.

August 26, 2025: OFDE Writers Retreat Workshop - (Grant) Writing Triage: Spotting and Solving Problems Early
Hosted by the Office of Faculty Development and Engagement (OFDE) as part of the August 2025 Faculty Writers Retreat.
In this workshop, RDO shared strategies for efficiently diagnosing and addressing common challenges in proposal writing. These techniques are applicable to grant proposals as well as other types of writing projects.

August 25, 2025: SLAC & Stanford Critical Minerals and Materials Workshop

This event was held to discuss and develop ideas for an expanded critical minerals and materials research program at SLAC and Stanford. The agenda was formed with the goals of describing the research landscape, facilitating brainstorming and team formation, and promoting SLAC-Stanford collaborations to prepare for anticipated funding opportunities.
June 16, 2025 - June 20, 2025: OFDE Writers Retreat - Individualized grant consultations
Hosted by the Office of Faculty Development and Engagement (OFDE) as part of the June 2025 Faculty Writers Retreat.
RDO offered one-on-one consultations for participants working on external grant proposals, integrated into the Writers Retreat schedule.

With shifts in the federal funding landscape, the need to investigate various sources of research support is all the more timely. This faculty-focused event aimed to help faculty investigate a variety of sources of research support, with emphasis on re-purposing, foundation, and corporate funding.

October 3, 2024: Strategy for Shared Instrumentation Grant-Seekers
Hosted together with VPDoR’s Shared Research Platforms team
A hybrid session on shared instrumentation grant preparation, followed by a networking lunch. Topics discussed included identifying suitable instrumentation funding, insights into key programs (NSF MRI, NIH S10, DoD DURIP, and Stanford C-ShaRP), developing a long-range timeline for applying to multiple funding opportunities, and Stanford's internal vetting processes.
June 27, 2024: Peer Support & Feedback
Hosted by OFDDE as part of the 2024 Faculty Writers' Retreat
A thought-starter for early-career faculty on how to activate peer networks to strengthen their writing. Attendees talked about common strategies across fields (e.g., writing groups, red team reviews), and how to make the most of the feedback they received.
April 25, 2024: Digital & Public Humanities Grant-writing Workshop
Hosted by CESTA as part of Global Horizons for the Digital and Public Humanities
This guided discussion focused on seeking funding for international projects in the digital and public humanities, including grant-seeking strategies and considerations for international projects, why and how to work with Program Officers, and common review processes for different types of funders.
January 24, 2024: SLAC-Stanford Collaboration workshop

This virtual event was held for participants to learn more about the recently announced call for Energy Frontier Research Centers by the Department of Energy, hear about proposal development resources at Stanford and SLAC, learn about SLAC capabilities, and connect with potential collaborators.
October 26, 2023: A Conversation about Post-Tenure Funding for Arts & Humanities Faculty
Hosted together with the Stanford Humanities Center
A breakfast and conversation focused on seeking external funding in the Arts and Humanities after tenure. Attendees come away with new ideas for integrating grant-seeking into their post-tenure careers as well as resources for seeking external funding as a Stanford PI.
