DoResearch Privacy Notice

This privacy notice explains how DoResearch collects, uses, discloses, and otherwise processes personal information via Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics.  Visit Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics to see how they process personal information.

Categories of Personal Information we Process

By visiting doresearch.stanford.edu, Stanford University Vice Provost Dean of Research collects the following data about you:

  • Online identifiers (e.g., IP address, cookie/unique IDs)
  • Device and browser information (e.g., device type, operating system, browser type, language, screen resolution)
  • Usage and interaction data (e.g., pages viewed, referring page, time spent, clicks, scrolling, navigation paths)
  • Session replay data (e.g., mouse movements, clicks, scrolling, and page interactions)

Use of Personal Information 

We may use this information to: 

Improve our Site, services, and user experience by using analytics and session replay to understand how users interact with our Site and to troubleshoot and improve performance.

Data Storage and Retention

The security, integrity, and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us.  Our minimum security standards can be found at: https://uit.stanford.edu/guide/securitystandards.

  • Microsoft Clarity: Session analytics data may be processed by Microsoft on our behalf. We retain Clarity data only as long as needed for analytics purposes and according to our retention settings and applicable Stanford retention requirements.
  • Google Analytics (GA4): We retain GA4 event/user data for the period configured in our GA4 property controls.

Sharing your Personal Information

We share your information internally at Stanford to facilitate and manage the purposes listed above.  We engage the following third parties to process your Personal Information on our behalf for the purpose stated above. 

  • Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) – provides website analytics and session replay to help us understand website usage and improve performance and user experience.
  • Google LLC – Google Analytics (GA4) (analytics and reporting) – Google processes certain information (including IP address and online identifiers) on our behalf to provide analytics services.

Stanford does not sell any Personal Information, including Personal Information of minors, to third parties for their use in direct marketing, advertising, or promotion of their products or services. 

Our service providers are required to comply with applicable data protection laws and Stanford's data protection standards under the terms of agreement with Stanford University. 

Individual Privacy Rights

Under certain circumstances, you have rights under the data protection laws that apply to you in relation to your Personal Information. Please refer to Stanford University Online Privacy Policy.  To exercise, please contact doresearch@stanford.edu.

Updates to Notice

We may modify this notice from time to time. When we make substantive changes to this statement, the latest update will be included on our website [doresearch.stanford.edu].  Your further use of our Services after a change to our notice will be subject to the updated statement. If you don't agree to the changes, then you can always stop using our services, delete your account and stop giving us any more personal information.  Where we are required by the applicable privacy laws, we will also seek your consent to any material changes that affect how we use your personal information.
