Recent Policy Updates

Edits throughout the document to align the policy with current processes for Visiting Student Researchers (VSRs). Updates clarify faculty and department responsibilities, appointment procedures, financial support options, and VSR rights and obligations. Outdated references, procedures, and internal links were reviewed and updated where necessary, and language was refined for consistency and clarity.

To be consistent with other policies add or Audit to Enrollment Status Para Persons registered in the VSR category are not permitted to enroll in ***or audit*** any classes. 

Clarifies the registration status of graduate students who are visiting Stanford for the purpose of conducting research under the supervision of a Stanford faculty member. Such visitors will be appointed as nonmatriculated graduate students in the category of Visiting Student Researchers. Effective September 1, 2011, the process for appointing and billing these students is changed as described here.
