Research Policy & Integrity

This office recommends and promulgates new research policy and oversees implementation and exceptions by consulting with representatives of other central research administration offices, school dean's offices, and other constituents to ensure that sufficient thought and thorough feedback has been received by all interested parties.  The office assists in the dissemination of policy and guidelines to ensure policy implementations are consistent and clearly communicated to the broader research community. Specific areas of policy and regulatory expertise and support include global research security, export controls, conflict of commitment and conflict of interest coordination and management and research data governance and integrity.

The Associate Vice Provost for Research Policy and Integrity is tasked with overseeing the above process and reporting back to the Vice Provost and Dean of Research.  When necessary, the Committee on Research and the Academic Council are advised or consulted for feedback and/or approval of policy.

Office of Research Administration

ORA collaborates with multiple central and school-based partner groups to provide expertise and deliver effective research administration services, systems, tools and processes to support faculty and staff in soliciting, securing and managing extramural project funding.

Industrial Contract Office

ICO negotiates sponsored research and other research-related  agreements with industry. These agreements range from multi-year, master research collaborations to individual research projects, with companies large and small. ICO handles material transfer agreements with all types of entities: companies, government agencies and nonprofits. ICO also executes agreements for Industry Affiliates Programs.

Office of Technology Licensing

OTL receives invention disclosures from Stanford faculty, staff and students, and evaluates these disclosures for their commercial possibilities, and when possible license them to industry.

Research Compliance Office

RCO is responsible for oversight and management of Stanford’s Administrative (Compliance) Panels and ensures compliance with applicable policies, accreditation standards and external regulations)

Environmental Health and Safety

EH&S is the principal health and safety office at Stanford University. EH&S works closely with the University Safety Partners, the faculty and managers in the research community and operational units, safety coordinators and safety committees, and departmental and central administrators. 

Office of STEM Outreach

OSO encourages and assists Stanford faculty and students to engage in science outreach targeted at our nation's youth, school teachers, and general public that will increase their interest, understanding, and involvement in science, math, and engineering

Stanford Research Computing Center

The Stanford Research Computing Center is a joint effort of the Dean of Research and University IT to build and support a comprehensive program to advance research at Stanford
