As the cognizant dean, this office oversees the program scope, direction, administration, and resources for the independent laboratories, institutes, and centers which operate outside school boundaries. As a university officer, the dean acts as a senior advisor to the president and provost in a broad array of academic issues beyond research.

Science outreach includes organized activities targeted at youth, school teachers, and the general public that will increase their interest, understanding, and involvement in math, science, and engineering.
Stanford is one of the first U.S. universities to create a permanent office dedicated to science outreach to address concerns about declining achievement in U.S. K-12 schools, the inadequate supply of trained American scientists and engineers to fill future jobs in the U.S., and the overall decline in scientific literacy of our citizenry.

The Stanford Center for Clinical and Translational Education and Research (Spectrum) is a Stanford University independent research center funded in part by an NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA).
