Dear Chairs and Directors, 

 

We write to remind you of the upcoming deadline for two faculty leadership positions and encourage faculty and researchers to subscribe to receive updates on funding opportunities. 

 

You are welcome and encouraged to share relevant parts of the updates and reminders in this message with faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students who may find the information and links helpful. 

 

Faculty leadership nomination deadline approaching 

 

May 17th is the deadline for nominations and applications for two faculty leadership positions: Senior Associate Vice Provost for Research and Senior Associate Vice Provost for Clinical Research Governance. Both positions will be part-time and based in the Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research. For more information on the position responsibilities, please visit our website

 

Applications and nominations should be directed to vpdordean@stanford.edu and received by 5:00 pm on May 17, 2022.  Applicants (or nominators) should provide a letter of intent (or recommendation) and a copy of the candidate’s CV.

 

Stay updated on future limited submission and seed funding opportunities 

 

Faculty, researchers and staff interested in VPDoR managed Limited Submissions (LS) and Stanford Seed Funding opportunities can now subscribe to mailing lists to receive timely announcements on funding opportunities across disciplines and research areas. The weekly VPDoR LS Announcements Newsletter shares information about internal competitions for external funding opportunities where the sponsor limits the number of proposals Stanford may submit. The Stanford Seed Funding website lists internal funding opportunities to bolster your research or other academic activities such as teaching or community engagement.

Funding opportunities spotlight

 

Below are three prominent sponsored research funding opportunities to spotlight this month. The Research Development Office (RDO) curated a longer list available here

 

NSF Regional Innovation Engines (NSFBAA-ENGINES-2022-05) NEW PROGRAM to carry out an integrated and comprehensive set of activities spanning use-inspired research, translation-to-practice, entrepreneurship, and workforce development to nurture and accelerate regional industries at a scale well beyond typical NSF research centers. Awards Type-1 (planning) up to $1M over 2 years; Type-2 (implementation) up to $160 million over up to 10 years. LIMITED SUBMISSION: Internal applications due 6/30/22 (same as NSF Concept Outlines). NSF Engineering Research Centers (ERC; NSF 22-580) for convergent research that will lead to strong societal impact and includes engineering workforce development, diversity and a culture of inclusion, and value creation within an innovation ecosystem that will outlast the ERC. NSF Physics Frontiers Centers (PFC; NSF 22-592) to foster major breakthroughs at the intellectual frontiers of physics in all sub-fields within the purview of the Division of Physics: atomic, molecular, optical, plasma, elementary particle, nuclear, particle astro-, gravitational, and biological physics.
